How we assist our Clients
Each Client is different, and we work with our clients based on their product development needs. We use our product development experience to help find and fill in the gaps to help our client's projects succeed.
Product Ideation and Benchmarking
This early phase of development is where everyone brings their ideas to the table. This is also where the functional "wants" and aesthetic "themes" are investigated, let the sketching begin. Through this brainstorming process, Widget Farms is typically working with a Designer whom is directing the aesthetics. During this phase, Widget Farms is concepting ideas on the "how to's" and the "why's" and investigating ways to improve the concepts before we even begin laying things out in CAD.
Design and Engineering Development
This is where we live. Working with initial design concepts, sketches or prototypes, we use CREO (ProEngineer) and Solidworks to develop those ideas further. We can develop parametric Class A-Surfaces and continue on into creating refine them to reduce cost, improve performance and create a design ready for manufacturing. Weather the design calls for injection molding, metal stamping, extrusions, die casting or molded foam, we have the knowledge base and experience to execute the project. When the design starts to mature and deadlines loom, we know how to finish strong. Draft analysis, tolerance stack ups, and tooling check lists, our objective is to have no surprises.
Prototyping and Refinement
We have in house prototyping capabilities utilizing 3D printers using FDM/FFF, and SLA processes. Along with a small scale CNC machine we turn design iterations around quickly and affordably. This allows us to conduct design verifications all the way through our development process, helping make sure there are no surprises once tooling is kicked off. For prototypes that are larger or simply outside of our skill set, we use many local machine shops and prototype houses to make sure we are providing our clients with the prototypes they need. Some clients even use us as their own "quick turn" prototyping house.
Product Documentation and Launch
We create engineering drawings for assemblies, and components in CREO/Pro Engineer and Solidworks to help capture and document the manufacturing specifications and requirements. We also continue to support engineering and launch teams as they kick off production tooling to ensure a successful product launch.
